The Religious Education Council of England and Wales invites tenders for a Principal Investigator to provide senior research leadership for a proposed 24-month funded project, Theorising Ways of Knowing in Religious Education. The project will develop a rigorous interdisciplinary theoretical framework for understanding “ways of knowing” in Religious Education, drawing on theology, philosophy, history and the social sciences.
The Principal Investigator will lead the intellectual and methodological development of the project, oversee research design and synthesis, support the wider research team, engage with academic, practitioner and stakeholder groups, and contribute to academic, applied and policy outputs. The role is expected to be approximately 0.2 FTE over 24 months, with an anticipated flexible start date around September 2027. Applications are welcome from university-based academics, independent researchers or consultants. A single Principal Investigator is preferred, but joint applications from two Co-Investigators with a clear shared leadership model will be considered.
Applicants should submit a CV, covering letter, research leadership statement, relevant publications list, and costed proposal by 30th September 2026 to the Religious Education Council. Interviews with shortlisted applicants will take place in the beginning of October online.
