Newly appointed minister for school standards; Robin Walker MP acknowledges the value of RE for a range of careers in response to letter by RE Today CEO Zoe Keens. We followed this up with a letter to request a meeting. The letter aimed to make the minister aware of a blog in the British Medical Journal by Nikki Nebavi here. The minister’s response included the following:

“I am grateful to you for bringing the article featured in the British Medical Journal to our attention. It was encouraging to read about the benefits that can be gained from learning RE as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, not only in developing pupils’ skills, but also in affording them the opportunity to move into a wider range of careers.

We appreciate your continued work with the RE community and your efforts to highlight the importance of RE for pupils, not only in school, but in later life too”
