Meeting with Clive Harris of the Local Government Association

The Policy Unit met with Clive Harris – senior policy officer for the Local Government Association. We wanted to raise awareness of local authority responsibilities for RE with local councillors. We also explained some of the opportunities provided by working with and through local SACREs. Through the meeting we were able to confirm that in most local authorities, the lack of capacity and funding, means that the support for RE envisaged when SACREs were established in law is now very much a thing of the past. We agreed to write some material for the LGA publications and liaise further with the LGA on their events and our Parliamentary Round Table.
