The REC calls on supporters of Religious education to challenge the government to fund Religious education curriculum projects.
Government ministers make regular statements about the way they value Religious education. Sadly however, their spending record would suggest something rather different.
In response to a written question tabled by Kim Leadbeater MP, Robin Walker MP, minister for school standards admitted that the Department for Education has been supporting curricular projects in many areas of the curriculum, but has allocated no funds at all to Religious education specific projects in the last 5 years.
Supporters of the subject area are asked to share this information widely and to consider writing to their MP. They might want to ask why, when according to a Savanta survey commissioned by CSTG, 64% of UK adults agree that RE is an important part of the school curriculum today, Religious Education is not deemed worthy of funding in the same way as many other subjects.
