The 2020 Annual General Meeting of the RE Council took place online this year due to the ongoing public health crisis. A two-minute silence and act of remembrance at the start of the meeting marked the passing of four members of the RE community who are victims of Coronavirus.
The Council was able to effectively carry out its required business of approving the Annual Report along with the audited accounts. Approximately 90 attendees from 46 of our Member Organisations joined a Zoom Webinar, and were able to pose questions to the Officers using the chat function.
There were also elections to fill 3 upcoming vacancies on the REC Board, as well as the position of Treasurer. Aliya Azam, Patricia Hannam and Sara Perlmutter will take up their roles as Board members from the 1st September 2020. Our Acting Treasurer, Rosemary Rivett, was also elected and will formally become REC Treasurer on the 1st September 2020.
We are delighted that our members voting to accept both The Independent Schools Christian Alliance (TISCA), and the Christian Schools Trust (CST) into membership on the grounds that both organisations satisfy the REC’s membership criteria. Votes for TISCA were 41 for and 0 against. Votes for CST were 36 for and 4 against.
There was a comprehensive report from the Chief Executive Rudolf Eliott Lockhart on the RE Council’s activities over the previous six months. The full text of the report is available here: CEO’s Report 2020 AGM.
Four member organisations shared information on their work.
Finally the Chair paid tribute to the work of Rudi as CEO, before closing the meeting.
Many thanks to those who could attend and make the meeting a success. We look forward to another year of working together to campaign for high quality RE across England and Wales.
