Engaging with MP Tim Farron

On Friday 15th of April, 2016 the Young Ambassadors for RE at the Queen Katherine School in Kendal invited Tim Farron, the leader of the Liberal Democrats Party and their local MP, to visit their school. The purpose of the visit was to consider views concerning the importance of RE in schools. We are delighted to have been joined by Helen Harrison, from the RE Council who has been a huge support to the Young Ambassadors. We were also joined by students and staff from the Queen Katherine School that are interested in matters relating to RE.

Tim Farron shared his view that RE is about more than just understanding others; it relates to human rights too. He also said that people need to know that RE is under threat and that it needs a solution. He agreed that there was a danger that RE may slip off the education agenda and that it was our job to make some noises about the value of RE. He also said that he would support RE’s place in the curriculum.

The visit was a huge success and we (the Young RE ambassadors) hope for more visits to come!
