The Federation of RE Centres is a forum and support network for those involved in the provision of resources for multi-faith Religious education in UK schools, colleges, churches and community groups. In addition to the FREC website, the information and support activities of the group also include the publication of a twice yearly newsletter and the organisation of conferences and other events.
Contributions to RE
Many members of the Group have their own specific research interests in the provision of multi-faith RE within the UK. However, the principal focus of the group is practical, with the provision of a number of Resource Centres across the country which house extensive collections of resources related to RE, Collective Worship, SMSC development, contemporary moral issues, Citizenship etc. The range of resources provided by individual Centres varies but will frequently include: multi-faith religious artefacts, books, DVDs, posters, CD ROMs, cards and other related teacher support materials. Most Centre resources are available either for loan or purchase. Many Centres also offer local training, advice and consultancy services within this highly specialist area of education.
In the broadest sense, the Federation of RE Centres has something to offer RE teachers, Specialist leaders of RE, Church youth workers, those involved in Children’s Church programmes, PGCE students, members of a local faith community and/or individual members of the public interested in the religions of the world. Centres may be part of / found within the local faith community, Education Authority, Diocesan office or inter-faith community.
