The RE Quality Mark now has over 2,000 Twitter followers, 318 schools with the award and 18 new assessors. Thanks to generous funding from The Westhill Trust the RE Council is able to offer FREE RE Quality Mark assessments to a limited number of schools in the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. A grant from the St Matthias Trust means we can also offer subsidised REQM assessments to eligible schools in Bristol, Bath and Wells, Gloucester and Somerset.
Do you know a school in these regions, or anywhere else in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, where learners are receiving excellent RE? Please share the REQM flyer and suggest that they visit the website for more information – www.reqm.org.
What is the RE Quality Mark?
The RE Quality Mark is a national curriculum award to recognise and celebrate high-quality RE provision for all schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, particularly where schools are providing their learners with authentic experiences and contributing to whole school outcomes.
RE makes a powerful contribution to young people’s learning. It provides them with the chance to explore the big ideas of religion and belief and to think about what matters in their own lives. Good RE supports the development of the whole child. It also has a significant contribution to make to whole school improvement. With the renewed focus from Ofsted on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development for all pupils, it is more important than ever that RE is recognised and celebrated.
What is the purpose of the RE Quality Mark?
The RE Quality Mark has two purposes: it recognises good practice in RE and also provides a powerful tool for development. Schools which have applied for the award have found that it affirms the work they are already doing, raises the profile of the subject and gives them ideas and confidence for developing their practice even further.
Moseley School in Birmingham achieved REQM Gold in 2017. Here’s what the RE subject leader said about the REQM:
The RE quality mark has raised the profile of RE in the school. It has given us recognition of what things we are doing well and what we can improve. It is an external validation of the good practice we have in place.
